Parents are responsible for the example and direction they give to their own children. What parents serve, children will eat, both, literally and metaphorically.
It is a heartbreaking reality to discover that the majority of children often eat artificial snacks like Gold Fish, with their parents, being aware, or even worse- supportive, of it. Many parents consider it a healthy snack actually.
Unfortunately, if your child attends just about any educational establishment, it’s hard to avoid your children being fed Gold Fish, since they are given such junk food from preschool. Teachers, schools and parents most of all, must read the label and do some research, since our children’s’ health matters the most!
Primarily, we must consider the content of Goldfish snacks, which is all but kid friendly:
-Unbleached Enriched Wheat Flour [Reduced Iron, Flour, Niacin, Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Folic Acid Thiamin Mononitrate (Vitamin B1)],
-Vegetable Oils (Sunflower and/or Soybean, Canola),
Moreover, it contains 2 Percent or Less of:
- Onion Powder
- Leavening (Ammonium Bicarbonate, Baking Soda, Monocalcium Phosphate),
Still, we are not done. The Rainbow version of this snack has artificial dyes in its content:
- Blue 2,
- Red 40,
- Blue 1,
- Red 3
Non Fat Milk
Moreover, low fat milk has absolutely no nutrients because by removing the fat from dairy products, food processors end up removing a host of fatty acids and other nutrients along with it. Non fat milk, as well as all other conventional dairy products are harmful to your health, since they contain dangerous sweeteners.
To illustrate this, consider the fact that a cup of 2-percent milk contains 12.3 grams of sugar, which is more than a chocolate chip cookie or a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup.
A study published by Southampton University proved that food dye negatively affects all children, whether they have food color sensitivity or they have been diagnosed with a hyperactivity disorder.
Furthermore, the Center for Science in the Public Interest claims that all of these artificial dyes contain potential cancer-causing chemicals and most of them can potentially cause severe allergic reactions in children.
GMO Oils and Wheat
There is nothing healthy or natural about these snacks. Namely, Goldfish is made with genetically engineered ingredients (GMOs) – namely canola or soybean oil.. Children can be most affected by these dangers, because they are constantly in a state of high growth.
Nowadays, there are painstaking struggles to raise the awareness that genetic modification creates new proteins the human body has never before seen. They become these foreign organisms which our bodies try to attack and destroy.
GMO foods, and especially soy, have been tied to an increase in allergies, asthma, and a propensity to get antibiotic resistant infections. A recent story in the UK Telegraph (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/earthnews/8…) revealed that the herbicides used on GM soy are so toxic that can often cause severe illness and even death when in direct contact.
Our duty and aim should be to always take care of the diet of our families, so we should always opt for homemade foods, organic options and thus eliminate foods without artificial dyes, additives, and other harmful ingredients as much as possible.
