Toddler’s Feet Placed Into Scalding Water By Her Step-Grandmother

People were shocked to see the horrific pictures from a Tennessee toddler’s feet covered in burns and blisters after her grandmother dipped them into boiling water.

The abhorrent incident occurred on August 11 when her step-grandmother, Jennifer Vaughn, 53, babysat the two-year-old Kaylee Robinson, at her home in Chattanooga.

According to the toddler’s mother, Brittany Smith, Vaughn admitted to using the scalding water on the tot because she was ‘having a bad day’. She has now been charged with aggravated child abuse and is being held on a $150,000 bond.

If convicted, she could be sentenced to 15 to 80 years in prison. The case will be presented to a grand jury in October.

Meanwhile, Brittany shared pictures of her little girl’s feet with several media outlets, and as Rhea County Sheriff’s Department detective Rocky Potter said after seeing them, they are the worst scald burns he has ever seen.

He explained that hospital, where little Kaylee is being treated, describes them as ‘sock burns’, as they look as if she is wearing a pink pair of socks.

Photos show the toddler with third-degree burns at the top of her feet and large welting blisters wrapping around her ankles. As the burns on both feet are identical, doctors and a sheriff believe the “sock burns” could only have been inflicted deliberately.

Her mother explained that she left Kaylee at the home of Vaughn, the mother of her fiancé Kyle Vaughn, and took her two older children swimming. This was not the first time her step-grandmother babysat Kaylee.

Yet, shortly after dropping her off, Vaughn called her, and she heard Kaylee screaming in the background. Vaughn told her to come home right away. When she did, she found her daughter still wailing in agony, but Vaughn didn’t initially tell her how she got the burns.

She said that she left the toddler alone in the bath, but afterward, she admitted dipping her feet in boiling water because Kaylee was misbehaving.

Brittany says she cannot understand such a punishment, no matter how bad a two-year-old was. She added that if she had her way, she would have the exactly the same punishment given to Vaughn.

Nine days after the accident, the mother told Metro that the wounds of her daughter were aggravated, even though she underwent two operations. The skin was not repairing itself in the way the doctors hoped it would, and the baby suffered great pain.

She added that surgeons were planning to take some skin from her thigh again the following week to try and repair her feet, but the girl was also at an increased risk of infection and might even lose her feet.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help with the medical costs, with a target of $US5000 ($A7400).

According to the newest update there, from August, 30, Kyle Vaughn explained that Kaylee has had 4 surgeries and would undergo a 5th surgery the following week.

It was also reported that she got admitted into well star burn center on August, 26 and she will have to stay there until she recovers from her fifth surgery.

He also thanked everyone for their support, prayers, and donations, and informed them that they will organize a benefit for Kaylee on October 5th in Spring City, so anyone interested could message him of Brittany for further details.

Numerous people offer their help to the family, feel very sorry for the poor toddler and this terrible tragedy, and claim that they are constantly praying for her full recovery.
