This Organic Herb is More Effective than Prozac for Treating Depression and Has No Side Effects
The latest studies in which scientists compared natural remedies to the most popular pharmaceutical inventions have shown that chemical loaded medicines often (if not always) do more harm than good to your body.
By now you should be well aware of the fact that foods, herbs, and other natural sources can be really helpful and efficient in treating a variety of health conditions without any side-effects.
And once again, science has affirmed our beliefs: Not that long ago, Phytotherapy Research published a study conducted by a group of scientists who found that turmeric is not only effective in treating depression, but there is a high possibility that it is even more effective than some of the most common antidepressants currently offered on the market.
Every research on turmeric’s (curcumin) health benefits only indicated its effectiveness in treating serious depression, but the subjected study was the first RCT (randomized controlled trial) of its kind.
The group of researchers with the Department of Pharmacology of Government Medical College in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, India studied the effects of turmeric and Prozac (fluoxetine). The study involved 60 patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD), and both herb and pharmaceutical were used together and individually.
The researchers measured their results according to the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale, explains GreenMedInfo.com.
“We observed that curcumin was well tolerated by all the patients. The proportion of responders as measured by the HAM-D17 scale was higher in the combination group (77.8%) than in the fluoxetine [Prozac] (64.7%) and the curcumin (62.5%) groups; however, these data were not statistically significant (P = 0.58). Interestingly, the mean change in HAM-D17 score at the end of six weeks was comparable in all three groups (P = 0.77).
This study provides first clinical evidence that curcumin may be used as an effective and safe modality for treatment in patients with MDD without concurrent suicidal ideation or other psychotic disorders.”
The results led to the conclusion that turmeric is as effective as Prozac, but if you take into consideration the negative effects of Prozac, then it is more than clear which of these two is the winner.
Scientists have found that Prozac causes “suicidal ideation or other psychotic disorders,” and each of you would probably agree on this one -- these frightening side effects are clearly absent in turmeric use!
The bright yellow root which is commonly used in Indian cooking not only fights depression, but it has also proven to be efficient in treating numerous health conditions. And to this illuminative study on its efficacy in fighting depression, we would like to add its beneficial effect in the treatment of inflammatory conditions, diabetes, and even cancer. If you are still not aware of its value, just keep reading.
Turmeric has also been proven to be the perfect ally in the weight loss process and your best friend when it comes to cutting heart disease risk. One more thing -- it tastes amazing!
Antidepressants are part of Big Pharma’s gigantic money-making puzzle. Now that the consumers are enlightened with the findings of this study, they have the power to stop the massive drugging in America and the world.
