Golden Retriever Comes Home With A Baby Koala Whose Life She Just Saved

Dogs are super cute and loyal and loving and caring and funny and.. OK, stop me!

And koalas are adorable!

Can you imagine having these two at home?

Where the party’s at?

Only in Australia!

Kerry McKinnon enjoyed her life with her Golden retriever, Asha. But one morning, a surprise waited for her!

Her husband yelled her to come, and when she went outside, Asha was sitting with a baby koala atop her back!

The family lives in Strathdownie, Western Virginia, Australia, and during the winter, the morning temperatures could reach around 41F degrees, which is too cold for the tiny koala.

Kerry admitted that she was shocked at first, so she wasn’t very supportive of Asha:

“I just burst out laughing. Poor Asha didn’t know what to think; she just kept looking at me with such a confused look. She looked a bit guilty when I came out to see what was going on. Her expression was hilarious.”

“She kept looking back at the koala but she wasn’t trying to get him off her or anything. She was happy to let him snuggle into her.”

Kerry believes dogs have a protective instinct, and her caring dog was praised as a hero for saving the little koala.

Kerry said:

“Asha definitely saved the koala’s life by keeping him warm. He would have died out there if left alone all night. The poor thing could have been taken by a fox or something too.”

She also explained that it “wasn’t easy” to separate the two friends, and the koala put up a “huge fuss” when Kerry attempted to take it out of her dog’s back.

After it was examined by a vet, the baby koala has been taken by a local carer, to watch over it until it reaches an age when it can be returned to the wild.

This is the cutest friendship story ever!

“It was quite early in the morning, and my husband yelled out to me to come to have a look at something”

“I didn’t know what he was talking about at first but then I saw this tiny koala snuggled on top of Asha”

“I think the baby koala fell out of his mum’s pouch and didn’t know what to do”

“He would have died out there if left alone all night. The poor thing could have been taken by a fox or something, too”
