Concerned About Mass Die-Offs, Morgan Freeman Converted His 124-Acre Ranch Into a Bee Sanctuary (with Video)

You probably know about the devastating decline in the number of bee colonies. Bees die off at a high rate. Taking this serious problem into consideration, world famous actor Morgan Freeman has dedicated to make things better.

How did he do it?

The actor converted his 124-acre ranch into a bee refuge. Celebrities have the ability to sway public with a couple of words, and while some of them use this power for the bad, others use it to make the world a better place to live in. When Freeman talks about the importance of protecting bees, people listen to him with a special attention.

You may think that you have nothing to do with this problem, but it is something that should concern every American. Modern world kills off colonies.

This involves using excessive amounts of toxic pesticides, poor diet, parasites and a lack of genetic diversity. Here is a terrifying information: About a third of honey bee colonies in the US have disappeared since 2006.

What is even more shocking is the fact that if bees disappear, so shall we, and it is time to take some action as Morgan Freeman did, before things get any worse.

“Anyone who cares about the health of the planet, for now and for generations to come, needs to answer this wake-up call.…Fewer bees lead to lower availability and potentially higher prices of fruit and vegetables. Fewer bees mean no almonds, less coffee and less alfalfa hay available to feed dairy cows.…We need good, clean food, and so do our pollinators. If bees do not have enough to eat, we won’t have enough to eat. Dying bees scream a message to us that they cannot survive in our current agricultural and urban environments…” says Marla Spivak, a renowned entomologist.
