Can you imagine finding the secret to longevity in a glass of beer? Well, it worked for Mildred Bowers, of Mount Pleasant, SC.
Three years ago, in the weeks leading up to her 103rd birthday, “Millie”, as her friends and family call her, while she was having early birthday celebration at a local restaurant, she was interviewed by WCSC Live 5 News.
In the interview, she was asked about her secret to longevity, and she attributes it to genes, but claims she also has another secret- beer!
Apparently, every day at four o’clock, she is allowed to have a beer at the assisted living facility. The idea came about when she was talking with some nurses, and after they asked the doctor, he approved.
Millie is also in good health and claims that her mind is sharp, something most of the people her age don’t have. She also looks beautiful and has clear and soft skin.
Millie was born in a family with eight sisters, and she was the only one who did not have children. She lived through the Great Depression and outlived two husbands.
At the restaurant, her friends ordered her a beer, and she liked it. Her friend Mary Ann Hartman explained that her doctor said it was good for her.
Also, as a special early birthday moment, Bowers posed for her first cell phone selfie ever. Millie adds that not everyone is a fan of beer, so the thing is to find your favorite beverage and take the time to sit and enjoy drinking it daily.
Well, this sounds pretty wise. Cheers to longevity!
