You will be able to keep your body very healthy and away from chemical contamination which is usually associated with non-organic growing. In the following part of the article we will present you how to grown citrus fruits in your own yard.

1. Lemons

It is recommendable to buy a young tree (two to three years). This way you will get the best results when growing your tree. Pick out some plastic or clay pot (with many holes in the pot’s bottom).

Make sure the pot you are using is bigger than your tree’s root ball. In time, as the tree grows, you will have to transfer it in a pot that is about 12 to 16 inches deep and 16 to 20 inches in diameter. Placethe tree into the pot.Fill the pot’s drainage container with few stones in order to improve air flow.

Next thing to do is filling up the pot with good quality soil. Something you need to know -- some kinds of soils are particularlyprepared for growing these fruit-trees, so they will most likely give much better results.

Basically, this is all the preparation you will need. Make sure the place where you put the pot is providing the tree 7 to 10 hours of sunlight every day. Also, do not forget to water it on a regular basis.

Keep in mind that you must not over-water your baby tree. Lemons trees take about seven to nine months in order to ripen, so when they have full color on, you are all set.

You can also grow the tree form one seed. In order to do so, you will need the following things:

  • One organic lemon because non-organic lemons are often containing non-germinating seeds
  • The soil you will use needs to be fertile potting. It is recommendable for the soil to contain natural fertilizers, peat, vermiculite and perlite.
  • A planting pot (6 inches in width and 6 inches in dept)
  • A seedling pot (24 inches in width and 12 inches in dept)
  • Location that is indoors butsunny and a grow lamp

Follow the following steps if you want to properly grow the lemon tree:

  1. Moisten your potting soil, making it damp. Do not soak itall the way.
  2. Fill a smaller pot with some soil. Leave just one inch below the pot’s rim.
  3. Remove one seed from a lemon. Clean the seed you are about to use. A simple andgood way to do so is to suckthe seed until it becomes completely clean.
  4. Do not delay the process of planting. The seed must be moisten when you are about to bury it in the soil. Plant your seed ½ an inch in dept, somewhere in the middle of your pot.
  5. Next, gently spray the soil above the planted seed. Do this with a spray bottle.
  6. Cover the pot using a clear plastic wrap, and then seal the edges of the pot with a rubber band. Do not forget to poke many small holes. You can use pencil in order to do this.
  7. Place the pot in a location that is both sunny and warm.
  8. Spray some more water if you do not want your soil to completely become dry. Do not spray too much water, just a little bit so you will keep the soil moist.
  9.     After 2 weeks, after the sprouting emerges, put away the pot’s plastic covering. Use a grow light if yourplant needsmore light.
  10.     Take care of your plant by keeping the soil damp. In order to do this, make sure your plant gets eight hours of good light every day. Also, give your tree organic fertilizer but in moderate doses.
  11. Make sure your tree is not attacked ordamaged by some diseases orany kind of bugs. Use some pesticides if you feel like your plant needs. Also, throw away dead and brown leaves. Protect the young tree!
  12.     When your young plant does not fit in your small pot, you will need to transfer it in the other pot that we mentioned earlier in this article. You will most likely go through the same almost same procedure during the re-planting. Young plants like these need more water than older plants. However, both of them need enough water. You must never starve the plant. (1)

2 .Mandarins

If you are going to grow this plant indoors, we recommend choosing a baby tree. Baby trees, such as these, have more successful growth data, unlike the ones grown from a seed. Prepare the plastic/clay pot in the same way like the one with the lemons (holes at the bottom, drainageand spacious with rocks).Last but certainly not least, give your young tree the needed sunlight.

Mandarin trees can grow indoors due to the fact that they usually cannot grow above 6 feet in height. Water the freshly planted tree on a daily basis but do it conservatively. As soon as the plant’s roots poke out of the pot’s drainage holes, use the larger pot. Pick the fruits when they turn orange in color because each moment after that kills the fruit’s flavor.

Tip: Be careful when picking the fruits off of the tree. Try to leave their little button-like piece, which is placed at the top of the fruit, onto the tree.

We really do hope that some of you will use one the two presented ways in order to pick some delicious fruits in the future.
